LIMBO Is Now Available For the Mac App Store

LIMBO, by Playdead Games, is now available in the Mac App Store. The game, originally for X-Box I believe, is about a little boy who enters Limbo in search of his missing sister. Neat concept, but what's truly remarkable  is the breathtaking B&W artwork and atmospheric sound FX and level design.

_______________

__________ explains that while _________ bills itself as a production company, it's really a hybrid of an advertising agency, production house, and multimedia content factory that has dialed into the low cost of entry and pervasiveness of the Web. ____________'s mission is to place the Web at the center of all advertising, exploiting it to make marketing cheaper, faster, and more effective -- across all platforms. "We are the model for what the future of an agency is going to look like."

American Assholes of The Week — John And Kristi (with an "i") Schiller

Lots of good candidates and runners-up, but we have a definitive winner! Excerpted from the ridiculous NY Times article about rich assholes buying lavish tree houses for their snotty fucking kids. Be sure to check out the tacky and altogether inappropriate slide show.

In Houston, John Schiller, an oil company executive, and his wife, Kristi, a Playboy model turned blogger, custom-built a playhouse for their daughter, Sinclair, now 4. Pictured, Ms. Schiller and Sinclair outside the two-story, 170-square-foot, Cape Cod-style playhouse. “I think of it as bling for the yard,” Ms. Schiller said.

The little stainless steel sink in the kitchen has running water. The windows, which all open, have screens to keep out mosquitoes, and there are begonias in the window boxes.

The stainless steel mini fridge and freezer are stocked with juice boxes and Popsicles. Upstairs is a sitting area with a child-size sofa and chairs for watching DVDs on the 32-inch flat-screen TV. The playhouse is air-conditioned.

$30.00 Movies on Demand? Yeah, That'll Work.

Because everybody wants to pay MORE money to see crappy Hollywood movies, remakes, and sequels.

"Warner Bros., Sony, Universal and 20th Century Fox have all agreed to be involved with 'Home Premiere', the industry's official premium VOD service which is set to launch late next month reports Variety.

Movies will be offered up to rent for $30 for a 2-3 day viewing period. Titles will show up two months after their theatrical releases, depending on the distributor, and won't include films that "are still performing well at the box-office".

As far as I can tell, the ONLY factor that makes this a "Premium" service — is the ridiculous $30.00 price tag. Brilliant. So help me understand the buinsess model here, Hollywood; I can go see a movie in the theater on opening day for $10.00 — or I can see the same movie, two months later, on my TV at home, for $30.00. Awesome! Sign me up!

Okay Advertising, You Win.

Two degrees of meta Kevin Bacon is admittedly funny and clever. I smell a Golden Lion and a CLIO in store for this ad team.

Image Comics Teaser Ads

Despite some really bad typography choices, the new teaser ad campaign from Image Comics is pretty inspired. They distill everything that's great about comic books down to a dynamic image + word pairing. For folks who don't read comics, it works as a nice intro to the medium. And for folks who are already fans, it leaves you wanting more. Clever solution (but fix the type! Jeez.) Via Newsarama.
