Because everybody wants to pay MORE money to see crappy Hollywood movies, remakes, and sequels.
"Warner Bros., Sony, Universal and 20th Century Fox have all agreed to be involved with 'Home Premiere', the industry's official premium VOD service which is set to launch late next month reports Variety.
Movies will be offered up to rent for $30 for a 2-3 day viewing period. Titles will show up two months after their theatrical releases, depending on the distributor, and won't include films that "are still performing well at the box-office".
As far as I can tell, the ONLY factor that makes this a "Premium" service — is the ridiculous $30.00 price tag. Brilliant. So help me understand the buinsess model here, Hollywood; I can go see a movie in the theater on opening day for $10.00 — or I can see the same movie, two months later, on my TV at home, for $30.00. Awesome! Sign me up!
