I think it would be possible to use a contemporary sans-serif typeface in a "gladiator" type movie, but it'd be tough to pull it off. Case in point, this ridiculous looking Prince of Persia poster one-sheet from Comic Con. The type could not be more inappropriate for the subject matter, and results in making Jake Gylenhaal look completely ridiculous. I wonder if people get fired for stuff like this?
Hilarious. Prince of Penis.

While I agree it may be an inappropriate choice of typeface for the subject matter, it does help--along with the positioning of the two swords--in keeping one's eyes fixated on that one area of the poster. Not to mention how the PE SI of PERSIA and the N of Prince seem to stand out more than the other letters.... hmmm P. E. N..........
What do you think?
