If You Only See One Film This Year ...

... it should be Iron Man, which was really fun. But if you can see TWO films ... I'd strongly recommend The Wrestler as a second choice. There is more authentic feeling and emotion in this one film than in all the other movies I saw in 2008 combined.

Yes Man
The whole movie is really funny because he says yes to everything, even like drinking a bunch of Red Bull, which is really funny because he talks really fast just like when people drink a lot of Red Bull.

Seven Pounds
What’s this movie about, the dump I just took?  *looks around for high five*

Tale of Despereaux
I think they really missed an opportunity by not calling it “Tail of Despereaux.”  Because he’s a f-cking mouse, get it?  Bleaux me.

The Wrestler
Aka Watch Clay Face Win the Oscar. I really want to see this.  Too bad it’s only playing in New York and LA and I’m in Fresno.  Don’t feel too sorry for me though, the IHOP here is the motherf-cking shiznit. 

Kind of Forked Up

I was reviewing the winning 2008 poster designs over at StepInsideDesign (kudos to Aesthetic Apparatus) when I spotted this "Dining For Friends" poster by Henderson Bromstead Art. Now I'm all for creative appropriation, and I understand that Michael Beirut (and James Victore) don't have a copyright on the fork as an image, but when HB elects to combine the fork render with the precious little "scrawled" hand drawn type, I think they're getting into dangerous stylistic territory (?)

Although if it was me, I'd call the firm "No.17" ... it just looks so much cooler, no?

Gears of War + Devotchka

Every year, videogame companies pour massive amounts of money into pre-holiday television advertising. The commercials typically utilize lots of epic game footage and are often accompanied by wonderful soundtracks. Last years most poignant ad (for Halo 3) featured "the raindrop" by Frederic Chopin.



This years best has to be Gears of War and the inspired choice of Dvotchka's "How It Ends". Bravo. Art Directors have the best job in the world.
